Webinar - Do Politics in Our Democracy, Prevent Schooling for Democracy?
By Joseph Kahne and John Rogers
Over the last several months, school board meetings across the country have become ground zero for contentious and destructive battles. The vitriolic political rhetoric and threatening behavior are posing a serious threat to democracy.
In a webinar hosted by the UCLA School of Education and Information Studies and the UC Riverside School of Education, Joseph Kahne and John Rogers lead a conversation with school leaders and nationally recognized journalists about the political conflicts confronting schools and the larger implications for learning and democracy. They also discuss the results of a new study by Kahne, Rogers, and Alexander Kwako that found when district leaders emphasize the importance of educating for democracy, schools in both liberal and conservative areas were far more likely to support such practices.
